FAQs

  • How long has your company been in business?

As the oldest privately family owned business in the state of Tennessee, White’s has been providing quality stone products for over 148 years and 6 generations. Since 1870, the company has been wholly owned by a direct descendant of the White family. Throughout the years, we have renovated and expanded into a larger manufacturing facility. We have served East Tennessee and the surrounding areas for well over a century and have built a reputation on treating our customers like family.

  • What makes White’s Marble Works unique?

We pride ourselves not only on the durability of our products, but also on our dedication to customer satisfaction and professionalism. Our skilled craftsmen will work with you to custom design a monument that conveys the message of honor and respect for future generations to see. The process of creating a memorial begins at our office which includes both an indoor and outdoor display of monument options. We will then sit down with you one on one to create a truly custom piece for your loved one. A proof drawing of the memorial is then created. Also, since we do all of our own sandblast work for the designs and lettering here at our manufacturing facility, this results in a faster turnaround time for completion.

  • What are the cemetery’s rules and regulations?

Each cemetery will have their own set of rules and regulations that you must follow. These rules may include restrictions on monument type, color, size, style, etc… Some cemeteries also have fees that they require prior to installation. Please contact an official with your cemetery to find out what the rules, regulations and fees will be prior to purchasing a monument.

  • I’ve never bought a memorial before; where do I begin?

The process of creating a memorial begins at our office which includes both an indoor and outdoor display of monument options. We will then sit down with you one on one to create a truly custom piece for your loved one.

  • Can I walk in or is an appointment necessary?

An appointment is not necessary, but it is recommended. On average, the design and ordering process from start to finish takes 1 hour for each family. Since we frequently have several families in here at the same time, your wait time can be greatly reduced if you have an appointment ahead of time, so we can plan accordingly.

  • Can a customized design be put on a stone?

Yes, we currently have thousands of design options to choose from but we always welcome the opportunity to create something new.

  • Will I see a proof drawing of the memorial before production begins?

Yes, we create proof drawings of all our memorials and you are provided with your own copy which you can take home with you.

  • Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, we currently offer a layaway option. With this option, you make monthly payments until the monument is paid for in full. Once final payment is received, production begins on the monument and then it is installed.

  • What are the instructions for setting vases?

*Putty will need to be kept in water until ready to use so it doesn’t dry out.

  1. Roll putty around in hands to work up.
  2. Roll it out into a thin strip about the thickness of a pencil.
  3. Place the putty on the bottom of the vase making a circle.
  4. Roll and stretch the circle of putty out towards the edges.
  5. Go around the circle, tapping the putty with the palm of your hand, to make it stick to

the vase.

  1. Set the vase on the stone, making sure the drain hole is pointing away from the stone.

This is to ensure that water will be able to drain out properly and away from the stone.

  1. Press down on top of the vase, using full weight, until putty can be seen coming out

from around the edges of the vase.

  1. Trim the excess putty from around the vase and you are done.

*Putty takes 2-3 weeks to completely cure out and dry.
